Casi (kc) Callaway Mobile Baykeeper, Executive Director and Baykeeper Since 1998 Casi has been leading the Mobile Bay area’s largest environmental group – Mobile Baykeeper. The group’s mission and responsibility is vital and large; the Mobile Bay Watershed covers two-thirds of the state of Alabama and is the fourth largest drainage basin in North America.
A native Mobilian, Casi has been working in the ecology field since graduating from Emory University where she served as the Earth Day Coordinator for the southeast’s five southern states. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Human and Natural Ecology.
Her current responsibilities include organizing, researching and educating the on issues that affect our public health, environment and quality of life for the Mobile Bay Area. She and her staff have grown the Baykeeper membership from 300 to 3,500 and now has a annual budget of nearly $350,000.
Casi has held several gubernatorial appointments, which include: - Commissioner of Alabama Commission on Environmental Initiatives - appointed by Governor Don Siegelman;
- Coastal Resources Advisory Council – appointed by Governor Bob Riley;
- The Gulf of Mexico Program – Environmental Representative, Citizens Advisory Committee and Management Committee – appointed by Governor Riley;
- Mobile Bay National Estuary Program – Management Committee – appointed by Governor Riley.
She is a member of Junior League of Mobile, League of Women Voters, Mobile United Natural Resource Committee, Alabama Department of Environmental Management Reform Coalition – Co-Chair, and Mobile Air Quality Study.
She lives in the Mobile Bay area with her husband, Jarrett and their handsome baby boy, Colman. |
